My Favorite Skin Care Products
I've had an interest in skin care since I was a teenager. Partly due to a bad sunburn I got about that time and partly because I remember seeing information about the importance of starting skin care early. I was an avid skier and went skiing one spring day. It was beautiful and sunny and I soaked in as much of the sunshine as I could. I also ended up with first and second degree burns on my face, which really ruined my spring break. About this same time I started noticing skin care information and thought "I better start taking care of my skin now, while I'm still young!"
That started my interest in trying out skin care and beauty products. I found out pretty quickly that I had sensitive skin and had to be very careful about what products I chose. I also wanted to use as many clean, non-toxic products as I could. Luckily there are many more options to choose from then when my interest began. There are also many resources available to make choosing the best products a little bit easier.
I've developed a system for researching skin care and beauty products and would like to share my favorites. EWG Skin Deep Database is one of my go-to's for determining how non-toxic a product is. They are also a good resource if you would like to know more about ingredients in skin care products, what to avoid, what is safe. I also research the companies directly. I'm not loyal to any one brand, but I do have my favorites and in general you'll find that my skin care and beauty regimen is a mixture of several different brands and products.
Devita is one you'll see over and over in my lists. While the EWG's Skin Deep Database only has a handful of their products listed, all the products, and the company, rank 1 on EWG which indicates low hazard, and the best rating a product or company can receive. Devita is devoted to product safety and have strict standards for what ingredients are in their products. They are also certified cruelty free, vegan, and follow the NIRC Criteria for labeling natural ingredients and products.
Beautycounter is a fairly new company on my list. I was initially interested in them for the makeup, but when I met up with a rep she gave me quite a few skin care samples and I absolutely fell in love with how amazing they felt and worked on my skin! Beautycounter only includes ingredients that have published safety data and which rank 3 or lower on the EWG's Skin Deep Database. They also have a focus on performance. They want to give customers options in skin care and makeup that perform as well as other products without using harmful ingredients.
I have one NOW product and the company's manufacturing and quality standards are the highest! They go beyond FDA current Good Manufacturing Practices and they test all their ingredients and finished products to ensure the highest in quality and safety.
Devita and Devita Rx can be purchased from my online dispensary, if you decide to make an account and purchase I do offer 15% discount if bought through my dispensary.
Skin care. The basics here: cleanser, toner, moisturizer
Cleanser and Toner
My current favorite is Cleansing Balm by Beautycounter. As I have gotten older my skin has needed more hydration even during cleansing to avoid feeling dry. This works as a cleanser, a makeup remover and can be left on overnight as a moisturizing mask.
I have two other products I have used extensively and I still use several times per week. Aloe Vera Moisture Cleanser, and Gentle Aloe Facial Scrub, both by Devita. The Aloe Cleanser is a smooth, lathering Aloe Vera based foaming cleanser, the exfoliating cleanser has gentle exfoliation with natural jojoba beads.
For toner I use Devita’s Cool Cucumber or Moroccan Rose. I like them both, but I think the cucumber is my very favorite.
Daytime: Devita Perfecting Time Nutritional Moisturizer
I also have Devita Daily Solar Protective Moisturizer 30+ which I often mix with my liquid foundation to make sure I have plenty of sun protection. This sun protection absorbs quickly and is created specifically for those sensitive to breakouts from sunscreen.
Nighttime: Evening Rich Nutritional Moisturizer
For eye care:
Daytime: NOW brand 2 in 1 Correcting Eye Cream. I LOVE this product, it's promoted to reduce tired eyes, dark circles and fine lines. If I wake up with tired, puffy undereye area I put this on and in 10 minutes the undereye area has tightened up and I look ready for the day!
Nighttime: Devita Under Eye Repair Serum - Not much to say other than I love this, it feels great and is very moisturizing to my sensitive under eye area.
For skin repair:
C-Pro Plus by Devita Rx - I love this product. It's basically vitamin C and alpha-hydroxy-acid, both which help the skin with collagen repair and rejuvenation. It helps lock in moisture and minimizes fine lines and wrinkles.
Skin Brightening products:
Devita Natural Skin Care Skin Brightening Serum. I use this after toner, but before moisturizer in the morning.
Complex KBA by Devita Rx. This is a skin brightening formula that helps even out uneven skin tones. As I have gotten older I notice my face and décolletage skin tone to be more uneven. I noticed an almost immediate difference when I started using this and their Ultra Hydrate Rx on my décolletage.
I don’t often use so many products from one company, and I definitely have my favorites of several other products and companies, but I was really sold completely on Devita when I tried their Devita Try-Me Kit Anti-Aging Kit. For under $20 you can try the whole line of Devita skin care products and see for yourself how amazing they feel on your skin!
You can check out most of the products mentioned above at my online dispensary, just go to categories on the left and use the drop down menu to find all my favorite skin care products (Look under Dr. Mayatte’s Favorite Skin Care Products).
